Tuesday, 26 Jun 2012 10:09
Due to the rapid increase of population and vehicles as well as insufficient of public transport, the traffic congestion and accident are still the critical challenge for Phnom Penh. To cope with these issues, the Capital Hall had requested for the technical assistances from the Government of Japan for the “Project on the Urban Transport Master Plan in the Phnom Penh Metropolitan Area in 2001” and the “Project for Traffic Improvement in Phnom Penh from 2007 to 2010”. Through those projects, JICA, the project implementing agency had provided recommendations and technology transfers on the improvement of road intersection, traffic signal and the education campaign for traffic safety…etc. However, recently, Phnom Penh had geographically, demographically and economically changed; thus JICA had decided to provide another project called “the Project for Comprehensive Urban Transport Plan in Phnom Penh Capital City” aiming to formulate a 2035 master plan on urban transport based on the previous master plan (2001) to create public transport system as well as provide other relevant technology transfers.
