PROCLAMATION

Nowadays, along with the technical and economic development there is gradual need in use of Dry Batteries and battery-operated appliances countrywide. Particularly, in Phnom Penh there is tendency of a constant increase. Consequently, the dry battery wastes, that do not have any economic value, non re-useable, and non recyclable in our country, for the time being, has on the contrary been creating negative impacts in the long run, due to the fact that they are composed of chemical substances.

The long term and indirect effect of this kind of hazardous waste is one of the factors that led to shorter average life span of human being in the countries with low income, particularly in Cambodia, comparing to other developed countries. Moreover, results of scientific researches alerted that, currently there are various, worrisome diseases, such as cancer, loss of memory, renal failure, impotent, hypertension, intra cerebral hemorrhages, stress, neuralgia etc., due to effects from chemical substances contained in the dry battery wastes.

In this regard, the Municipality of Phnom Penh proclaims to the Heads of all Government and Non-Government Institutions, Private companies, Foreign Embassies in Phnom Penh, as well as any generous individual and entities, to kindly participate in the Campaign “Join Together for Phnom Penh free from Risks of Dry Battery Wastes” (which will be held from 8:30 to 11:00 am on Saturday, October 06th, 2007, At Deykraham Park, Sangkat Tonle Basac, Khann Chamkamon), through financial, material contributions and/or showing supports by disposing dry battery wastes properly into the bins.

Your valuable supports and actions will take part in preserving our social life and safeguarding our environment. We will use these collected resources transparently, and only for the benefits of this sole purpose. For contributions and/or more detail information, please contact directly to H.E. Mr. Mann Chhoeurn, H/P: 012 820 311 or Tel: 023 430 681, e-mail: ang.chiek@online.com.kh or check website of the Municipality at http://www.phnompenh.gov.kh .
