- Groundbreaking of Flood Protection and Drainage Improvement Project in Phase II

Phnom Penh flood protection and drainage system projects in phase II which were the grant aid of the Japanese Government was launched on December 13, 2007 under the presidency of Samdech Prime Minister HUN SEN, KATSUHIRO SHI NOHARA, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia along with city hall officials.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor said, « Certain drainage systems were built during French colony and some in the 1960’s then the drainage served 300.000 to 6000.000 people. At the present time the drainage systems have been successive improved in line with city development projects. Densely population growth makes the increasing use of water which is beyond to the capacity of draining water out.
With the close cooperation between Cambodia and Japan, the Japanese government decided to provide Cambodia with the construction of flood protection projects to be carried out by KUBOTH Construction,; Ltd at an expected cost of 2.149.000.000 yen or 20 million dollars. The projects are schedule to complete in March 2010.
