Municipality Promised Not to Cut Off Electricity Due to the Garbage Fees

On Thursday, Municipality authority confirmed not to agree with CINTRY and EDC [Electricité Du Cambodge] on cutting off the power because of the garbage fees. Phnom Penh Governor, H.E KEP CHUK TEMA, wrote a letter to the director of EDC to notify that EDC must inform the City Hall prior the cutting off the power. Otherwise, the City Hall will not take any responsibility for any unwanted outcomes. On Thursday 8 th , 2005, City Hall held a press conference to confirm its position on the controversy over the garbage fee between the CINTRY Company and the people. H.E PA SOCHEATE VONG, Vice Governor of Phnom Penh, opposed the EDC on cutting off the electricity adding that Phnom Penh civil servants and residents are disappointed with the certainty action of EDC. They need a rational decision and solution to set monthly garbage fees. Based on the issue, City hall will revise the CINTRY's contract which states the garbage fees.
