Phnom Penh Municipality delegations leaded by H.E. KEP CHUK TEMA, Governor of Phnom Penh Municipality accompany by Phnom Penh city hall official had joined the Mayor's Asia-Pacific Environmental Summit (MAPES) in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States held three days from 22 to 24 September 2003.

The meeting was held at Hilton Hawaiian Village, which is delegations of 100 cities from 29 countries as the Mayors, government leaders from around the Asia and Pacific, the honorary chair by Senator Daniel K. Inouye, United States Senate and chair by over Mr. Jeremy Harris, City and county of Honolulu.

The meeting was focused on the environmental and local and international policy makers to develop environment strategies, poverty reduction and good governance for future sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific. Phnom Penh delegations presented on “Water Serve to the Poor” and group discussion on topic “Water Supply and Wastewater Management”, “Air Quality Management” and “Solid Waste Management”.  On closing the summit, Phnom Penh delegation made the commitment summary on:

- Upgrade living condition of urban poor communities by providing clean water and needed services through participation of the poor, NGOs and Phnom Penh Municipality.
- Prepare Phnom Penh City Development Strategies from 2004 – 2008 to undertake priority actions link to the National Poverty Reduction Strategies of the Royal Government of Cambodia. At 2005, MPP has to report the achievement as the commitments above to MAPES in Honolulu city, so MAPES will give a reward amount US $ 25,000 for working result.
