Phnom Penh delegations leaded by H.E. KEP CHUK TEMA, Governor of Phnom Penh Municipality participated in the East Asia Mayor's Forum in Kunming City, Yunnan, China. This forum is the initial Mr. Zhu Rongji's idea, who is former president of the Republic of China, during he participated in the 8th ASEAN Summit in 10+3 in November, 2002 in Cambodia. There are 13 countries from ASEAN to join the forum which Cambodia site have 17 delegations come from Phnom Penh City, Battambang Province, and Siam Reap Province. The objective of forum is the East Asia cooperation which is focus on:
1. The opportunity and challenges of city development in the process of East Asia cooperation.
2. To promote the cooperation in economy, trade, tourism, information technology, culture and East Asia integration.
3. To build a network to share experience in city construction and public administration, human resources development, sustainable development.
In the return home, H.E. KEP CHUK TEMA said that Phnom Penh Municipality has requested to be a host of East Asia Mayor's Forum in the upcoming year 2010. The East Asia Mayor's Forum agreed to declaration 6 main points like the below ÷
- Promoting the well-being of people's living condition and the development of East Asian Cities.
- Deepen friendship among East Asian cities on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
- Within the framework of ASEAN 10+3 cooperation, make full use of advantages of our cities as business and cultural centers in our respective region.
- Mayors of municipal governments in promoting cooperation among East Asian cities by creating a good neighborly, improving information service and public health, facilitating exchanges and cooperation in various fields through the website of the East Asia Mayor's Forum basis of equality and provide adequate assistance to individuals, organizations and business who travel between East Asian cities for cultural, commercial and tourism purposes.
- Agree to hold once a year in rotation among East Asian cities back to back with the East Asian cities commodities Fair.
- The Forum will encourage other East Asian cities to join in, and actively conduct extensive cooperation and exchange with other cities and relevant international organizations in Asia and the rest of the world.
This opportunity, we have demonstrated about reputation of our city on economy, tourism and commercial to participants from other countries.
