Waste in Phnom Penh
o Waste flow
- 667tons of waste is generated daily.
- 147tons of waste is self disposed daily.
- 64tons of waste is dumped illegally daily.
- 455tons of waste is disposed at SMC daily.
o Final disposal
- Capacity of the present disposal site is only for 2 years' operation.
- To keep Phnom Penh clean city, the new disposal site must be constructed as soon as possible

Scenario of Disposal Management

Why is the new site in Dang Kor ?
o Site selection studies were conducted from 1995 and concluded Dang Kor was most suitable site.
o JICA ST reviewed the previous studies and reached the same results considering the following criteria
- Natural conditions (flood, soil etc.)
- Accessibility
- Surrounding environment
- More than 100ha of land

Preliminary design will be prepared based on the results of surveys and your opinions by the end of December to collect your second opinions and obtain your consent.
